IROPIN Bekasi Provides Free Glasses to Support Students’ Education

JENAWI | Bekasi - Efforts to improve the quality of education in Bekasi City have received concrete support from the Indonesian Optometrists Association (IROPIN), Bekasi City Branch, West Java Regional Board. As part of its community service, particularly in the health sector, the organization distributed free eyeglasses to students of SMP Negeri 30 Bekasi who suffer from vision impairments.

The symbolic handover took place at the courtyard of SMP Negeri 30 Bekasi on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), led by Bekasi Mayor Dr. Tri Adhianto Tjahyono. The event was also attended by local government officials, representatives from the Education and Health Offices, Iropin board members, sub-district and village heads, police officers, teachers, and community leaders.

In his remarks, Mayor Tri Adhianto expressed high appreciation for IROPIN’s initiative, highlighting its direct impact on students’ learning process.

“This program is very beneficial, especially for children who have difficulty seeing clearly in class. With these eyeglasses, they can focus better on their studies. We truly appreciate Iropin Bekasi City Branch under the leadership of Daeng Karna. Hopefully, this program will continue in the future,” said Tri Adhianto.

Committee Chairman Kartono A. Md.RO explained that Iropin has routinely organized free eyeglass distribution as part of its service to society.

“We want to contribute to students’ eye health because good vision greatly supports the quality of learning,” he said.

Principal of SMP Negeri 30 Bekasi, Sumiyati, S.Pd., M.Pd., also conveyed her gratitude. She noted that many students at the school suffer from mild to moderate vision problems that affect their academic performance.

“On behalf of the school, we extend our gratitude. This program is a great help for our children’s learning process and aligns with the government’s efforts to strengthen equal access to education and healthcare,” she said.

Chairman of Iropin Bekasi City Branch, Daeng Karna A.Md.RO, emphasized that providing free eyeglasses is both a professional service and a form of social responsibility to support education.

“Many students still struggle to read books or see the blackboard. Through this program, we hope to ease parents’ burdens while supporting education in Bekasi,” Daeng said.

He added that prior to the distribution, all students had undergone eye examinations on August 21. In his educational session, Daeng also explained the importance of maintaining eye health in the digital era, including awareness of computer vision syndrome caused by excessive gadget use.

Daeng further highlighted the role of optometrists as qualified health professionals in diagnosing refractive errors and underscored the importance of choosing licensed optical services to ensure accurate and comfortable results.

“We are also ready to collaborate with the health office to conduct eye screenings at schools and in the community, so that serious conditions can be detected early,” he explained.

One of the beneficiaries, Lauvina Salim, a Grade IX-5 student at SMP Negeri 30, expressed her gratitude.

“Thank you for the free eyeglasses. I am very grateful, and I hope IROPIN can continue to help more people,” she said.

The initiative received warm responses from students, teachers, and parents alike. Beyond improving eye health, the program also reflects strong collaboration between the education sector, health professionals, and the local government in nurturing a healthy, intelligent, and high-quality young generation.
